The city of Lalibela is located at 2,600 meters above sea level. It is mountainous region in the heart of Ethiopia, some 645 km from Addis Ababa It contains 11monolithic churches that were built in the twelfth century and are carved out of the pink granite rock; they have been classified as one of the wonders of the world. Their building is attributed to King Lalibela who set out to construct in the 12th century a ‘New Jerusalem’, after Muslim conquests halted Christian pilgrimages to the holy Land. Lalibela flourished after the decline of the Aksum Empire. On this trip, you have the opportunity to explore the city that may be described as a sculpture dedicated to the glory of God
